Scripture Study Tip: Sectionalizing- The Red Headed Hostess
Sectionalizing is something I love to do in my scriptures!
It really helps me to dissect a chapter and see themes running throughout.
I sectionalize by drawing lines above and beneath verses and write in the column, in between the lines, what is being taught in that “section” of scriptures.
Sometimes I focus on one verse and sometimes I group several scriptures into one theme.
* This is a great thing to do before you teach a chapter or chapters. It is a great way to organize your thoughts and know what to focus on.
* This is also a great way to study your scriptures. You notice things you may have passed by because you are looking for themes.
* This would also be an interesting way to have family scripture study. Read the verses together and decide where lines should be drawn and what should be written in the column
* Sometimes I quote a phrase right from the verses, and sometimes I write my own words like: “Keep our eyes on the prophet”, or “family is central”… I just write what I feel.

Thanks for this post. I was wondering if you were planning on doing one on 2nd Nephi. I’ve used the ones you did for chapters 1-11, but I am in desperate need for the other chapters. For some reason it always seems I get stuck and feel like I’m trying to walk through mud in 2nd Nephi with how much Nephi/Jacob quote Isaiah. 😐 Any tips going through these chapters would be awesome!
