52 Life-Changing Questions From the Book of Mormon:

Amazing new book by John Hilton III and Brad Wilcox

I have this book and I LOVE it.  One page in and you will be so happy you have it.  I have learned things from this book that have stayed on my mind and I find myself thinking of again and again. – and I have learned that is proof that you have been taught well.

Here is part of the description found in Deseret Book’s site (I think this is a GREAT description!):

Where can we find questions that will awaken us out of those mental—and spiritual—doldrums? Popular authors John Hilton III and Brad Wilcox help us recognize and ponder fifty-two powerful questions from the Book of Mormon—one for each week of the year. One short chapter each week has the power to change your life.

  • Have miracles ceased?
  • Have ye inquired of the Lord?
  • Have ye spiritually been born of God?
  • Know ye not that ye are in the hands of God?

Joseph Smith promised that we would get nearer to God through the Book of Mormon than through any other book. Pondering its inspired questions can propel us forward to attain that promise.

I use this book along with my study of the Book of Mormon and I find it to be a really useful resource. In fact,  I keep this book in my scripture study drawer.

You can read a sample chapter HERE (just click on “excerpt) and I warn you that you will definitely want this book after you read it!

  1. We always get the living room ready for Santa (all cleaned and shiny) and then sit on the floor by the Christmas tree and read “The Night Before Christmas” on Christmas Eve while sipping hot chocolate and eating cookies. It is magical every year.

  2. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS JOURNAL! I don’t teach the youth but I think it will be a great personal study and I can know what my own kids are learning about.

I want all of those questions and am going to print that off and hang it up.

  3. I have a lot of fun traditions that I’ve incorporated into my family, but the most special is when I find an opportunity to give of myself to someone else either in the form of 12 days of christmas or buying a ham for a family in need. It makes me feel more christlike and brings me the joy and peace of christmas.

  4. we always do the 12 days of Christmas for the kids school teachers. it is so fun to hear the experience of the kids and the reactions of the teachers each year.

  5. Christmas is too great to stick around for only one month. So our Christmas tree goes up in December.

The tradition stems from what became our dad’s last Christmas in 2004. It was September and he asked if we could have the tree up early. The man who’s dying from a brain tumor gets whatever he wants, so with no argument whatsoever, the tree went up and stayed up for several months after Christmas.

We’ve put it up September first at the latest ever since.

  6. I was able to teach some of these questions this year and I am so excited to get to do it again in 2014, only better 😀
I am most thrilled with all the October questions. How can I become more Christlike? etc. There are some amazing topics that just make you dig for more. I love it!

  7. Favorite Christmas tradition: listening to Christmas music while putting up the Christmas tree full of ornaments from cousin ornament exchange throughout my growing up years! It’s so fun to look back on them all!

  8. My favorite Christmas treat… hard to decide. I love our homemade jam thumbprints. Especially when mom makes them with her homemade peach vanilla bean jam or strawberry peach vanilla bean jam.

Mmmm… wonder if I can ask her to make some…

  9. My favorite Christmas treat…almond roca. I love making treats, so anything that sounds good that day is my favorite 😉 Snickerdoodles, molasses cookies, caramel popcorn balls, etc. yum!

  10. I watched video…. The what shall I do is a question I’m asking a lot right now, I seem to have a difficult time placing the lords will above my own at times.

  11. I think I’m most excited to study the building up the kingdom of god topics. I seem to have this increased desire to develop community and encourage those around me to accept the gospel. But I am often not good at putting it into practice. I’m hoping that my studying ill learn ways in which to do that.

  12. Christmas treat is hands down the chocolate orange in my stocking. A close second is tamales on Christmas Day or cinnamon rolls that morning 🙂

  13. I’m excited to get back to teaching about the Godhead in January! And love the final lesson on that month’s list: “Who am I, and who can I become”.

  14. We have quite a few traditions. One is sleeping under the tree on the 23rd. Another is buying or making an ornament every year so when we move out we have a starter set for our own trees. My favorite though is staying up all night the 23rd and all day the 24th so we would be tired enough to sleep all through the 24th night.

  15. My favorite thing to study is how to get closer to my saviour and I mean Joseph Smith close. I have so many questions that I would love direct answers to.

  16. My favorite Christmas tradition is doing little Christmas Devotional’s each night to help bring the spirit of Christmas into our home..

  17. favorite treat? Oreo Truffles – crushed mint oreos mixed with softened cream cheese, then put in the freezer until hard, then dipped in chocolate! Yummy!

  18. Every year for one of our traditions we have an annual cheese party. Everyone brings their favorite cheese dish-from cheesy fondues to chocolate chip cheese balls. We play lots of games and have fun with family!

  19. Favorite Christmas tradition would be … oh, goodness. There are so many. We’ll just say my Mom’s nativity collection. A select few are out all year but during the holidays even more come out. Not quite as many now that there are grandkids as there were for the couple of years when all my siblings and I were adults but still. Nativities. 🙂

  20. Christmas Cocoa. Cocoa and creamer and chopped mints.

Lots of other tasty options but cocoa’s the one with the most memories.

Or maybe just all the candy we eat while decorating graham cracker houses.

  21. My favorite christmas tradition is reading the story of the 1st Christmas and putting special ornaments on the tree to coordinate with the story.

  22. I’m most excited about the “How can I …” application questions. I love the the youth are learning how to LIVE the gospel, not just what it means. We all need these reminders at one time or another.

  23. Next year’s curriculum is exciting. There are many interesting topics that I am looking forward to studying. However, in December I want to learn about sharing my spiritual gifts..can’t wait to start. I enjoyed using all of my different journals this past year.

  24. Our favorite Christmas tradition is to get a BIG subway sandwich on Christmas Eve and then do the nativity and sing Christmas carols!

  25. A tradition that our family has done for years and we still carry on even though our children are all grown and gone, is to pixie a family. We decide on a family that is in need and we purchase various items that help them, toys for kids, clothes, food and what ever is fun. We gather the items and put names on them and put it all in a large Santa bag and leave it on their door step, ring the bell and run very quickly down the road to hide. We leave a note stating our testimony of Christ and how much they care loved. Running away is always the most fun so we don’t get caught. This year we are pixieing total strangers that we have observed that needs help. I can’t wait….

  26. My favorite Christmas tradition is spending December 25th with at my in-laws’, with my family invited over as well. We all come together as a family.:-)

  27. My favorite holiday treat is a European cookie (called “Mailanderli”) in Switzerland… basically a butter cookie. It’s soooooo delicious!

  28. All 137 topics sound amazing and have me very excited for this study guide! My favorite question right now: How can I make my prayers more meaningful?

  29. Excited about your give away. I hope I win. I have been studying hard this pass year. I always can use material on the subject I have been reading. Merry Christmas
    Toni

  30. My favorite Christmas tradition is spending the month of December studying the life of Christ with the kids. Because really, his birth means so much more in context of his life!

  31. Ohhhh…I love this!
OK, my favorite tradition (and one I’m most forgetful about) is actually from my husband’s family. Advent- it’s a German tradition where each Sunday before Christmas and on Christmas Eve, you light a candle (one for each week) and recite a poem. Then as a family and maybe some friends we sing Christmas Carols, read Christmas stories and have hot chocolate and some yummy goodies.

  32. I teach Sunday School so I have built in studying, but I love this organized approach! I love it all, but I’m looking forward to October’s Being More Christlike. This last year between Conference and sick kids I didn’t really teach or get a chance to study it.

  35. My Favorite Christmas tradition is Christmas Eve Pj’s. We then wear them all Christmas day. (unless its a Sun than we change for church than its back to pj’s)

  36. We have a “Christmas Book” that we read each day. It’s a 3-ring binder with page protectors and I made a cloth cover for it. Each day has a scripture, song, and stories. I started this when my kids were very young and now I have 4 teenagers and they beg me each day to read, even when I cry through some of the stories. Someday I will make each of them their own, to read to their own families.

  37. I love those soft candy stripe, melt in your mouth! Very dangerous if I buy a bucket because I would eat the whole thing!

  38. I would definitely start with the atonement. Having 4 teenagers, I think we need to spend time in Discussing this topic in more depth.

  39. I can’t wait to study March- the atonement, May- Prophets and Revelation and Aug- Marriage and family. Actually I like all of them, my favorites are the ones that teach scripture study skills and journaling.

  40. My husband’s family has a tradition to make southwest enchiladas on Christmas Eve and we’ve done this now since we’ve been married. It doesn’t seem like the “normal” food to have around Christmas, but we love it!

  43. One of our family’s favorite traditions after we buy our Christmas Tree, and before we decorate it, is we read the book “Why Christmas Trees Aren’t Perfect.” We find all the places “our tree” protected animals from the storm. 48. Topic – How can relying on the Savior’s grace help me to become a better teacher? (but I want to change it to spouse and wife!)

  49. Christmas eve we turn off all of the lights in the house, except for the Christmas tree. Then we read the story of the birth of Jesus Christ from the scriptures. Then we sing Christmas hymns while drinking cocoa.

  50. I am most looking forward to studying about “How can I learn to see Heavenly Father’s hand in all things?”. I try to look for the blessings in my life daily, but I need to do more and seeking for Heavenly Father’s hand in all things is definitely needed!

  51. My favorite Christmas treat is white chocolate cranberry cookies. My daughter makes them for family and friends. They are always a hit. I think the tartness of the fresh cranberries is just perfect with the sweetness of the cookie!

Another “tradition” we used to have was “who would get the Christmas dress that was in the form of pattern, fabric and zipper in the brown paper sack”. 73. My favorite Christmas treat has changed a little since giving up sugar and gluten last year – but it is now a homemade nut/date/Cocoa ball!

  79. How do the roles and men and women compliment each other?
