Understanding the House of Israel- The Red Headed Hostess

Update:

Thank you so much for all of the emails asking about where you can get this book! I just want to let you know that I am working with an illustrator and making this book better! So… yes it is coming… but for now, I hope this digital form is good enough. I have some exciting things to share about the House of Israel!

Note:  There is not a way to download this book.  This is a “view only” file.  We are creating a published version of this book and we will announce when it becomes available.  Thanks for your patience.

Here is a picture book I have made about the House of Israel

I made this one year to help my students understand this VERY important doctrine and I have just reworked it with better art!
This is a MAJOR theme in the Book of Mormon.  And Isaiah.  And pretty much the last half of the Old Testament.
I hope this helps you connect a lot of dots.
Just click on the picture below and it should come up as a full screen that allows you to turn the pages digitally.

  4. I totally agree with Debbie. It is beautiful and I would also purchase it if it was published. Or even if you just sold it as an e-book for like $5 or so totally worth it! Thank you so much for being willing to share your talents!

  5. Would love to have a copy of this book. Any chance you would sell the digital download? Would be great for FHE etc… but wouldn’t want to have to be around the computer.

LOVE this. You are so talented!

  6. This will be a wonderful tool with my seminary students next year when we read the Old Testament. I have never seen anything that put the House of Israel and our role in it so concisely. Thank you so much for sharing. And thank you so much for the seminary ideas!

  7. This is just what we need for the investigators we are teaching! Thank you for all your hard work and for being willing to share!!

  8. I’ll just repeat what everyone else has said. You are awesome and THANK YOU. I love checking your blog and so many of the things you have posted have led me to search different topics and taught me so much. You are blessing many lives and not in a superficial way, but in a deep spiritual way; you are teaching greater understanding of the gospel. I really wanted to study more in depth and feel more knowledgeable about gospel topics. Then, I found your website. I ditto what Eloise said, may you be blessed for sharing with us.

  9. Ok I may be a little retarded 🙂 I went to the issuu site so that I could download the booklet to print it off in a smaller from instead of full page sheets and…when I click on download it tells me this item can not be downloaded. Any help? Thanks.

  10. Thank you so much. This story puts the Abrahamic Covenant in real-life, easy-to-understand terms. I had the most amazing converstion with my 11-year-old about what it all means. Tears were flowing readily because the spirit was so strong! Thank you again!

I am also wondering where I can purchase this book to have in my home. What a great tool for FHE!

  11. That was amazing! What program did you use to do the artwork? I want to try something like that, but I have no idea how to.

  12. That is a great book. Really. So helpful. Not talking down to anyone, and very informative.

You rock. (As always. 🙂 )

  13. Wow! I’m impressed and grateful — what a wonderful thing to share your talent and your understanding with all of us. I’m excited to share this with my family. It’s concise and yet full of information and easy to understand. This is my first introduction to your site — I am so excited to spend time looking over the other things you have shared.
Thank you for your time and your talents and your generosity!

  14. How did you know that yesterday my son would ask us about the house of Israel. We were talking about Patriarchal blessings. As we tried to explain it, he glazed over. So we decided to add it to our FHE lesson sooner than later. Thank you so much for posting this.

  15. Thank you for this! I was reading through it and my 8 year old daughter came to see what I was doing. She started reading with me and took the computer away from me so she could finish. We both loved it! You are a very talented woman and I am so thankful to have found your site!

  16. can I just say I LOVE YOU!….no really, I do. Your site is amazing and has inspired me, OH so much! This is exactly the understanding I was needing… I was just reading in 2 NE about a few of these things last night. Thank you for taking the time and effort to make studying the scriptures fun and exciting. When I grow up (spiritually speaking), I want to be just like you! 🙂

  17. Just wanted to say thank you too!! I read this book to my class of Mia Maids today because our lesson was on the blessings of the House of Israel. It was such an AHA moment for a lot of them.. one of them said – “I didn’t realize all these stories connected.” Do you know what that felt like to have one of them finally see the big picture. I wish I could do more than just say thank you for your time, talent and love of the gospel!!!

  18. I also can’t figure out how to download it or print it. Did I misread something? I’m so grateful as this connects the dots for me as well better than anything else and I’ve been a member all my life! 🙂

  19. I’ve been thinking about this topic a lot lately and your book was a great review and synthesis. Thanks!

  20. You have the most amazing post….so inspiring!!!! I get so many ideas from reading your post ( as well as steal some from you!!!) This fall I will teach my 3rd year of seminary…Old Testament….WHEN WILL WE SEE SOME GREAT IDEAS FROM YOU??!!??!! (chapter titles, scripture mastery, etc….) Keep up the great work…I certainly appreciate you efforts.

  21. This is amazing. It really clears things up. I just discovered your website and it has so many wonderful ideas. Thank you for making your ideas available to the rest of us.

  22. I can not download this book from the link you provided. Has the download button been disabled? Is there anyway I can get a copy? I’d love to use it for Primary!

  23. I LOVE this book! I am a seminary teacher, and am looking forward to showing this to my students next year. But I don’t know how to download it? It isn’t the “upload” button at the issu site, is it?

    thanks so much!

  24. This is AMAZING!! How do I acquire the file to print and use in my library? Went to Issuu and there is no download link. Are you selling the file??

  25. Love, love, love this book! I would love a copy of this book, but the link you provided above does not have a download link. How can I get a copy?

  26. I sit here in awe over your work and I would love to somehow get this professionally printed. I will pay for it! Are there any options for this? Seriously. I am teaching this lesson next week and it is amazing! Consider a few online printing resources (viovio.com for example) and people can pay to have a professionally printed book. I know this is a book I reeeeally want on my family bookshelf for many many years!

You are amazing and we all want a slice of your awesomeness! Thanks for making this!!!

    1. Liz! Thank you so much – I am working on getting it printed right now. I will let you know as soon as it is available! You are so sweet! 🙂

  27. Amazing! I would love to have a hard copy. I am needing it for this Sunday. Are you going to be offering a download or would we get a hard copy from you? Thank you so much for sharing!!

  28. Wow! You are such an inspiration to me!! You are so knowledgeable and fun!! Thank you for your generosity and your creativity!! More importantly thank you for continually helping and inspiring me to study more and have a greater and renewed interest in studying more and a little differently to be more effective!! There haven’t been too many people in my life that have given me the interest to do that!! I teach yw in my ward and they are always inspiring me to know more!! Thanks for your great ideas and love of the gospel!!!!

  29. Thanks heaps, i printed it all out and laminated it so that my kids can use it on sundays! i know they are only 2yrs old and 1yr old and dont understand it now but they will as they get older. i also used it for my young womens, and then for my family at family home evening. i LOVE it!!

  30. Wow… this is incredible, Shannon! As Melanie P. said above, “This story puts the Abrahamic Covenant in real-life, easy-to-understand terms.” AMEN AND AMEN!!! I plan to print this out and refer to it again and again. Thank you so much for sharing your book with us!

  31. This was incredible!! I hope to use it in my seminary class this year. I hope that it is printed soon!! You have such an amazing talent in story-telling…just wish you had been around when my kids were little, but can’t wait to share you with my grandkids! And you are so generous to share yourself with all of us.

BTW….what program do you use to come up with your artwork? It would be so fun to have all of the seminary students make their own “books” of their favorite scripture masteries and since they are all so computer savvy this might be a way to do it.
    Thanks again!!!

  32. Shannon,
This book is amazing… As I prepare to teach early morning seminary this year I need a copy of this!!! I have gone to the Issuu web site from the link above but I can not figure out how to download or print– what am I doing wrong?? Is there any other way to get a copy of this book?

  33. I just came acrossed this and would love to use this book in my lesson for Relief Society. Are you able to send me a copy via email or do I need to purchase this? Please let me know.

  34. Hi, I shared this beautiful way of understanding the house of Israel for FHE, it is amazing to have someone like you, sharing her talent, Thank you so much for having such an inspiration. I love it! I treasure it.

  35. Love it!!!! I would also like to have a copy of this book. This would be great for my own kids and also activity days girls. Do you have a link of where I can buy a copy? Please let me know – thanks so much!!

  36. This is beyond great! I can’t believe how much I, as an adult and lifetime church member, didn’t understand about the House of Israel and the Abrahamic Covenant. I kept finding myself saying; “Really? Wow! I never knew that! That makes so much more sense!” etc. etc. Thank you for this great resource!

  37. THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! you’ve been an answer to my prayer and my friend that it’s not a member and wanted to know and understand more about this!! thank you!!

  38. I love your sight, just discovered it! This book is incredible, I’m a new seminary teacher and have anguished and struggled over teaching the Abrahamic covenant. My big hope and desire is that I can help them put all the pieces together by the time we finish the year, which is exactly what you did. Is there a way to print it out? I would be happy to pay for it!

  39. Love this book! Do you plan to make it available for purchase? I would love to have a copy (other than printed) in my home, especially since you have a copyright.

  40. Please help, I clicked on the link to download and can’t seem to figure out how to download the book. I was hoping to use it for family night, but I need help. Someone? Anyone? Help?

    1. Shelby-
I am so sorry, but it is not available for print at this time. As we speak, I am working on getting this published and so am unable to send out the file. Also, I took the file to a printer for a personal color copy and one copy would cost over $70. I am trying to get this available for people at a cheaper price. However, if you have internet access you can use a laptop to show the book to your class. Hope you can!
      Shannon

  41. Amazing!! Absolutely amazing!! I’m soooo happy to know you will be printing it! I can’t wait! Keep us posted on your progress. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

  42. Fabulous!!! Thank you so much for posting all of your lessons and ideas… not only so I can teach my family, but also so I can teach the yw where I am. Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!!

  43. Wow! This book is absolutely my AHA! moment! I just told my husband that I can’t believe I’ve been a member this long and never truly understood. This makes me want to continue reading The Bible! I can’t wait to learn more about my family and to actually have a better understanding of what I am reading. Thank you so much. This truly is a blessing. You are a blessing!

  44. Fabulous! You have such a wonderful way of teaching these things. Definitely needs to part of your print book collection for purchase. Pretty please. 🙂

    Cathy ♥

  45. could you be any more awesome? I love love love this. Wish you had a seminary class for moms I could attend
    Thanks so much

  46. This is the most basic, easily understandable, and best description of the Abrahamic Covenant I have ever seen. Thank you so much, Shannon!

  47. Just want to thank you again for such a clear and concise description of the part the House of Israel plays in the Plan of Salvation. I’d like to print every page in a poster size and put them up around the Gospel doctrine classroom! (Just kidding, but it really would help a lot of people understand why we emphasize things like scattering and gathering and just what the Abrahamic covenant entails for us as part of the House of Israel.) It’s awesome – what a great resource for everyone who teaches the gospel! 🙂

  48. I cannot get the book to download. Is there any other way to get it? I love your site and use it almost daily. My daughter in law is a seminary teacher in California and I told her about it. She loves it too!!!

  49. Thank you so much for making and sharing this! I was in Seminary almost 10 years ago and in that time no one has ever been able to break down such an important doctrine in to such a simple yet concise way for me to understand. I love your blog and have learned so much more from the scriptures since using your blog as a tool. Thank you very much!

  50. I am sorry…I am late to the post and you will probably not even see this at this point, …since there are so many responses…
But I cannot go without saying, “Thank you” for sharing this. It is truly, to be redundant, amazing and awesome.
    Thank you, again.

  51. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.
I really enjoyed your sharing ,making the house of Israel easier to put all together was something for me. Is there anyway that we could get some sort of copy?

    Sincerely,
    ~Maryann Stevens

  52. Amazing!! I really enjoyed reading this book!! Thank you for making the House of Israel easier to understand. I plan on sharing this with everyone I know!! You rock!

  53. I just copied, sheet protected, and 3 ring bound this wonderful presentation. All ready to share with my grown children and grandchildren. It is beautiful and I love it – thank you!!!
-Now I can clearly see why Satan is working so hard on us in the latter days. He is desperately trying to prevent us from receiving our eternal 3 P’s.

  54. I love this picture book. I’ve tried to download it with no success. I see that other have done it so there must be a way. Will you please share it with me? Thanks so much. You are awesome!

  55. I also, would love to have a hard-copy of this amazing book! I think it would be great for my children. It is engaging and easily understood by younger kids, and yet has a lot of meat that older kids can benefit from. I do not want to print off of your site without permission, so please let me know where I might obtain a download or direct me to a purchase option. Thank you for all of your wonderful work!

  56. This really helped me with my Youth sunday school lesson this week, not only to help me understand and explain in a simple manner, but I managed to show this to my class who loved it and wanted me to tell you.
It was great as I used this, plus a worksheet I made myself with Scriptures references & questions on and they were able to teach and learn for themselves.
They all asked for your website address after the lesson, so they can view it again and so they can get ideas themselves to help them with their scripture study. You now have a bunch of teenage boys who have become fans of your site. 🙂

  57. can I just say you are a genius!!! I am preparing for a mission right now so the only things I’ve been doing is studying studying studying but before I decided to go I was just getting into blogging and trying to create something of my own to do with the Gospel to help others. Going through all of your teaching tools and journals and ideas I can see that it is possible to do someday for myself! I appreciate this website so much and what an amazing tool this cute little book is to adults and children!!

  58. Whoa. I am a convert to the church (ten years) and I FINALLY understand the 12 tribes! I cannot begin to tell you how confused I have been- thank you so much!!!!

  59. Wow. I am amazed at what I just looked at. I’m 32 years old and have been a member of the church my entire life. This is the first time I’ve understood the House of Israel and everything that goes along with that. Thank you for your talents and for being willing to share them. You are gifted!

  60. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this! I would totally buy a printed copy of this if you offered it. Have you tried lulu.com? Their prices are usually pretty reasonable, and they have an online bookstore where you can sell your stuff. The book is adorable!

  61. Hi! I love this little book! I went to download it however, and the link provided didn’t have a way of downloading it. This is such a great resource! I want to be able to share if for Family Home Evening. Thank you so much for making it easier to understand the scriptures and all the resources that you have provided!

  62. Ok….WOW!!! I am SO SO SO happy that you made this cute little book. It is perfect!!! Is there any way I can download this book??? I want to have it for my kids.

  63. Thank you – love the House of Israel book! A question – what do the letters on the wheat and the cow mean, on page 27? This is from the illustration of the king’s dream that Joseph interprets. Thank you!

  64. Ditto, I too would love a copy of this book please let us know when we can download or buy or both.
    Denise

  65. I know this post is old but I’d like to add yet one more response that I’d be willing to pay for this book…even with graphics/illustrations as they are! I need this 🙂

    Thanks!!

  66. Shannon,
I likewise am teaching OT this year and think this would be a great resource.
It is so simple yet so complete.
Any news on how and when we might access a hard copy of this book. Pretty hard to show it to a class on an Ipad or to sit and share with a grandchild. 🙂 Nothing replaces a real book in your hands.
Thank you for all you do to help others in their Gospel learning.

  67. This was seriously so amazing and enlightening!! I never before understood the Abrahamic Covenant in such depth. Thank you so so much for your work in putting this together! You are a very kind person! Thanks again!!!

  68. Shannon,
This is amazing! My teenage daughter had so many question regarding this. I can’t wait to show this in FHE! Is there any way to make a copy of this? Thanks again for your wonderful sight. I love it and learn so much from it!
