Man of Prayer – Painting by Anthony Sweat – Canvas Art
See the description of this painting from the artist, Anthony Sweat:
As in all things, Jesus is our exemplar in prayer. He taught us how to pray in Matthew 6, teaching us to seek for the Father’s will and glory (not our own) in reverence and gratitude as we petition God. He himself often “went up into a mountain apart to pray” (Matthew 14:23), “rising up a great while before day” (Mark 1:35) and sometimes he “continued all night in prayer to God” (Luke 6:12). He prayed privately with friends (Luke 9:28), and for his friends (John 17:9) and for enemies (Matthew 5:44). He poured out his own soul in prayer in his agony in Gethsemane (Matthew 26:39). And when he came to the Book of Mormon peoples, he prayed things so beautiful they couldn’t even be written (3 Nephi 19:32). Prayer is a real power. It facilitates accountability, fosters commitment, fortifies the spirit, focuses priorities, finds answers, forgives faults, and fills the soul. When we ask, “Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1), we need look no further than the life and example of the Man of Prayer.
