Scripture Discussion Strips- The Red Headed Hostess

After I posted the article:  How a Busy Mom CAN Study her Scriptures, Connie Sokol contacted me and let me know of something that her son put together to help raise funds for his mission!

For years I struggled in our scripture study with young children to teenagers, trying to find ways to make it creative, meaningful, and without major drama. Occasionally, we were successful (at least on two counts…) Then the idea came to make it short and to the point with Scripture Strips.

 

These are selections of Book of Mormon scriptures professionally printed on golden colored paper strips. We put them in a fun family jar, pull one at breakfast, read it and then ask, “What does that mean?”, and/or, “How does that apply in our day or in our lives?”

We’ve enjoyed powerful discussions on topics ranging from bullying to planning our futures to what makes a good friend, all from these scriptural jumpstarts.

Often we’ve found that on any given day, someone has drawn a perfectly applicable scriptures. One woman shared with me that on her son’s first day of school she drew a Scripture Strip that referred to the Lord helping us get through our afflictions. As her son was starting seventh grade she said it was the perfect springboard for a great discussion on helping him through this new transition.

I love using these simple Scripture Strips because as a mom, I feel stellar that my children leave the home and face the day with a spiritual boost when we don’t necessarily have the luxury of a longer study time (saved for bedtime).

You can make your own by making it a scripture study project. My son and I both went through the Book of Mormon and highlighted key scriptures that would apply to most of us and our situations.
