Our brand is known for doctrinal accuracy, high-quality artwork, and visually engaging and consistent designs. We are expanding our illustrated content and looking for a skilled artist who can integrate AI tools into a professional workflow while preserving our visual feel and identity.

About the Role

The Red Headed Hostess is looking for a talented storybook artist who is also comfortable using AI tools as part of an efficient, hybrid art workflow. This role involves both creating original illustrations and expanding or adapting existing artwork using AI to speed up the process while keeping everything visually consistent with the established style for each project.

This is a great opportunity for an artist who enjoys original character design, storytelling, and combining traditional illustration skills with new technology.

What You Will Do

-Create original hand drawn illustrations that match the visual style of our current artwork and newly established styles for new products and projects.
-Collaborate with editors, writers, and other artists to keep illustrations aligned with the story and consistent with work from other contributors on the same project.
-Use AI tools to generate variations, new poses, expanded scenes, and additional compositions based on characters and assets we already own.
-Refine and clean up AI drafts so the final artwork looks hand-drawn and natural. Maintain strict consistency with character proportions, expressions, color palettes, and overall brand style.
-Work with our team to produce illustrations for scripture stories, weekly kits, graphic-novel layouts, and family learning materials.
-Use a combination of manual drawing skills and AI-assisted tools to work efficiently.
-Create new illustrations and artwork while also using AI tools to expand scenes, and additional compositions for the newly created work.
-Create artwork that is visually and historically accurate to the scripture story timeframe.

Required Skills

-Strong illustration ability, including character design and digital painting.
-Ability to match an established artistic style and create new artwork that is still on-brand.
-Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate with editors, writers, and fellow artists throughout a project.
-Experience with AI art tools.
-Ability to edit and refine images in Photoshop, Procreate, or Illustrator.
-High attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
-Ability to meet multiple deadlines across projects.
-Ability to produce efficiently and quickly in a production style environment.
-Ability to take critique and feedback and accurately and efficiently apply the feedback.
-Must have a positive attitude and the ability to maintain a positive attitude even during stressful times.

Preferred Qualifications

-Familiarity with LDS culture, doctrine, and scripture-based content.
-Experience with sequential art, children’s illustration, or character concept sheets.
-Strong sense of visual storytelling and scene composition.
