Joseph’s story in Genesis 37–41 is full of bet Joseph’s story in Genesis 37–41 is full of betrayal, hardship, and long waiting. But it’s also a story many mothers recognize. Joseph is thrown into a pit by his own brothers. Later he’s sold into slavery. At first it looks like everything has gone wrong.

But the scriptures slowly show something else. God is working through the very moments that seemed the hardest.

Sometimes we call those “pit moments.”

And they can become powerful conversations with your kids.

You might ask:

✨ What’s a pit moment you may be experiencing in your life?

✨ What helped you keep going?

✨ Have you ever seen God turn something painful into something meaningful?

As a mother, you can also share your own stories. The times something felt unfair or impossible, but later you could see how God was working in ways you didn’t understand yet.

Most moms don't have time for long scripture lessons. Life is busy. Kids are loud. The day moves fast. But when you know the story, suddenly those everyday moments become teaching moments. Dinner table conversations. Car rides. Bedtime talks.

That’s one reason the RHH Lifted App exists. This video is a portion of this week's 1-2-3 video. Each week the 1-2-3 video walks you through the scripture story in about 10 minutes so it’s on your heart and ready for real life moments with your kids. 🌿

Because when the scriptures start making sense, they start changing your home.

Before Joseph was taken to Egypt, he lived in the Before Joseph was taken to Egypt, he lived in the land of Canaan. Generations later, that same region would be where Jesus taught and ministered.

Sometimes kids just need to see it on a map to connect the dots that these are real people in real places.

I found this Holy Land puzzle @deseretbook and thought it was such a simple, visual way to help children understand the geography behind the scriptures. This is not sponsored, just something helpful if you’re teaching the Old Testament right now.

Comment “MAP” and I’ll send you the link to this darling Holy Land puzzle.

🎁And, I'll purchase 2 puzzles and send it to 2 people who comment below.

Most people picture Joseph’s “coat of many col Most people picture Joseph’s “coat of many colors” as bright and rainbow-like.

But the Hebrew phrase ketonet passim points to something more specific: a long robe reaching to the wrists and ankles. Not just colorful, but symbolic. A visible marker of status in the family.

And that small detail changes how we read everything that happens next.

Need help making these scripture stories make sense?

In 10 minutes or less each week, I guide you through the story in a simple 1-2-3 video inside the app, so you can carry it into real-life conversations with your kids and family.

In this week’s Come, Follow Me, we move into the In this week’s Come, Follow Me, we move into the story of Joseph in Genesis 37–41. Joseph is Jacob’s son, part of the same covenant family we’ve been studying through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

But Joseph’s story takes a painful turn.

He is betrayed by his own brothers, sold into Egypt, and separated from his family for years.
His brothers thought they were solving the problem of Joseph.

But God had a plan for Joseph’s life and for the covenant family.

Again and again, the scriptures quietly remind us:
“The Lord was with Joseph.” (Genesis 39)

Even in betrayal.
Even in injustice.
Even in waiting.

President Russell M. Nelson taught a powerful truth for our day:
“God will prevail.”

Joseph’s story reminds us that even when others act with harmful intent, God can still work through the situation to accomplish His purposes.

Many aspects of Joseph’s life also point us to Jesus Christ. As you study, watch for how Joseph’s suffering and faithfulness foreshadow the life and work of the Savior.

How might trusting that ‘God will prevail’ change the way you see the difficult parts of your own story?
