Cherry Christmas Salad | The Red Headed Hostess

Cherry Christmas Salad

This is one of my family recipes that almost always makes it to our Christmas dinner….

And its nutritional value is a big “ho ho ho”!

I remember back in my single days I made this salad for some dinner, somewhere… and a guy I had just met actually said “I may just propose to you right here and now because of this salad…”

If you are thinking “jello salad” you have been deceived.  There is no jello here.

And this will take you a total of 4 minutes to whip together.  And it is GREAT with your traditional Christmas dinner.

Are you ready for the ingredients?  Just close one eye and it may look a little bit healthier.

1 can of cherry pie filling (20 oz and undrained)

8 oz of crushed pineapple (undrained)

8 oz cool whip

1 can sweetened condensed milk

2 cups mini marshmallows

small bag of slivered almonds

Mix together, put in a pretty dish and chill for a few hours or overnight.

  1. I’m cooking your salad for the family tonight. Actually, cooking is the wrong word. I’m mixing up your salad better discribes what I will be doing. It sounds yummy. I know my family will like it. Shannon thank you for all the wonderful help you provide to us lesser mortals. I feel brain dead when it comes to the scriptures, you wake me up. I can hardly wait to see the booklet for YW next year. Have a wonderful, spiritual Christmas season, enjoy all that comes with it. Love and appreciate you.

  2. Oooh, this sounds so very similar to a family favorite. Except we don’t use pie filling. We DO use a jello packet for some color and flavor along with whatever fruit we want to add in it. We don’t do the milk either. I love the added almonds in here!

  3. Looks delish!!! Thank you for posting! Oh, and just received my scripture journals in the mail – hooray! They are amazing! Thank you!

  4. Sounds yummy! Too bad my hubby doesn’t like cherries or pineapple! I may try making it with Strawberries & maybe Mandarin Oranges (at least for him & my kids who say they don’t like cherries).

  5. This is known as cherry cloud at our house. It is a long time family favorite! It is a big hit with the kids and adults. We use pecans instead of almonds or omit the nuts all together. So yummy!

  6. I found this recipe in a cook book given to me as wedding present, and made it for a big family home evening back in 1984 and have not seen it since! I was so excited to find it again, and remember what a big hit is was with extended family back when my baby was a baby!
Great Idea with the maraschino cherries Janet!
