Book of the Month: Eve and the Choice Made in Eden

Are you a big reader?

I used to be, but lately it seems that sitting down and reading a book is kind of out of the question, and if I try, I feel guilty because there are so many things I have on my to-do list.  And I don’t like that.

So I was talking with a friend of mine and we decided that we would start a book group where we would only read inspirational books and then we, as women, would get together and discuss how it impacted our lives.  That is what I needed – a good book, with a deadline and good friends.

So both of us gathered a few women together (well actually, she did most of the gathering because I was pretty overwhelemd with the new download store) and we met for the first time last week.  What a wonderful and refreshing get together.  Most of us brought books to throw into the pot and ultimately we decided on this book:

Eve and the Choice Made in Eden, by Beverly Campbell

I started reading it today, and boy am I excited for this.  I have always felt that Eve is worth a serious study for anyone, but especially as women, and the more I study about her the more impacts how I see myself and my marriage.  So I am really excited to read what others have to say about her.  And it is “others”.  Along with Beverly’s insights, there are some AMAZING and insightful quotes that I have not come across yet.  So I feel like this is a great resource to find.

I would like to invite all of you to join us in reading this book, and each book that interests you every month.

Periodically I will post my thoughts about the book I am reading, and others in my book club may do the same and you can give your own thoughts as well in the comments – and I may even contact you to write more and put it in a post.  Also, when possible, I will reach out to the author to answer some questions (yours and mine) and offer some insights.

You can get this book at Deseret Book, and make sure you read the Preface and Introduction.  Really insightful.

  1. I love this book! My mom recommended I read it when I was recovering from an accident. It is so insightful. I would also recommend to read the second one. I need to find the title but it is also about Eve.

  2. Several years ago Beverly spoke at a YSA conference I attended and spoke about Eve and her choice–I loved the class and the insights Sister Campbell had. I had no idea she had written a book/s—I will def read this book, thanks for the information

  3. We have had a book group for about two years in our Relief society. We have read and studied “Jesus the Christ”, Stephen Robinson’s two books, The Broken Heart by Bruce Hafen, The Continuous Atonement, and The Lectures on Faith (with a study guide that is no longer in print). It has been a wonderful and spiritual experience to study these books of wisdom. I, too, Love to read and understand the women of the scriptures and this book sounds great. The book on tape about Eve by Bruce R. McConkie’s daughter is also wonderful. I wish it came in book form. Thanks for the suggestion.

  4. Sorry if this came twice. There was an error it said.

Our Relief Society has had a book group that studied Jesus the Christ by Talmage, Stephen Robinson’s two books, The Broken Heart by Hafen, Lectures on Faith (with a wonderful study guide), The Continuous Atonement by Brad Wilcox. What a wonderful experience it has been. Great books of wisdom. Bruce R. McConkie’s daughter has a book on tape about Eve that is wonderful. Thanks for the suggestion!

  5. I have read this book twice. I have had lots of issues growing up concerning my place as a woman in the church and so a good friend of mine gave me this book for Christmas. I have been grateful ever since.
I still struggle sometimes, but when it gets too overwhelming and I feel like I am not being heard or appreciated within the church I take comfort in this book.
    It is a blessing.

  6. I am so excited that you recommended this book! For so many years I’ve had questions about Eve and her role in the plan. I just downloaded the book onto my Kindle and I can’t wait to start reading tonight! I really feel like this was inspired.
    Thank you!

  7. I learned a lot from this book. Make sure you read all the way to the last chapter where she talks about Justice and Mercy. (Sometimes in a book group, you run out of time. 😉 )It was the most insightful part of her book for me. It has really impacted how I think about my role as a wife and as a member of my ward council.

  8. This is one of the best books I have ever read! My copy (that I purchased last fall) is highlighted, written in and marked-up all over. Sister Campbell has so many great insights. I think this is an important book for all women to read. I’ve loaned out my copy 3 times and I’ve purchased the book four or five times for others. It can enrich your life and make your temple experience that much more insightful and meaningful!

  9. I absolutely LOVED this book! I did an entire study on Eve in my Scripture Study Journal and I added several quotes from this book. I thought I knew a lot about Eve and Eden and I was thrilled to have many of my thoughts fine-tuned and magnified!
