Repentance Bible Study pdf

This post is part of a series of tutorials of different ways to use your TOPICS journals.

How to have a successful bible study about repentance

I am hoping to show you different ways you can be creative in your studying while keeping things fresh and fun. Learning how to study is a great topic for a quick family home evening lesson! (Even if you don’t have one of these journals… I hope this will still show you some ways to consider studying your scriptures.)

This is the FOURTH of the tutorials. To find the others, go to the “shopping tab” at the top of this site and then find any of the scripture journals and click on “ideas for you“.  This link will be continually updated with lots of ideas for you that you can use and adapt in your own scripture study.

Choosing a topic

This time I chose a talk by President Kimball titled, “What is True Repentance?

I found this talk simply by going to www.lds.org and then clicking on the menu and then study by topic.  Under repentance, this was one of the talks suggested.

So, if I wanted, I could do a page like this for each of the talks listed under that topic.

Or I could study all of the General Conference talks this past April this way.  Wouldn’t that be great?

The Study Journal

I formatted the talk to fit into my journal and then I pulled out my colored pencils and started studying and marking.

* To learn how to format talks to fit into your repentance bible study journal in a “pamphlet” format, go to this post for a step-by-step tutorial.

In this talk President Kimball talks about what Repentance is and what it is not.

The little titles above I just printed off my computer using a fun font and then cut it out and glued them at the top of the page.

Here is a little tip from a teacher who used journals in her seminary classes for many years… giving your family or class little things like this to glue into their journals increases their excitement to fill in the page.  It’s like magic.

As I read, I just kept writing things in as I found them.

And when I read parts that I particularly loved, I wrote them in the “Favorite Quotes” section.

I mean, read that quote above about Potiphar’s wife.  What a keeper.

Also, as President Kimball used scriptures in his talk, I wrote the ones that particularly stood out to me in the “Scriptures” section.

When I was finished, I taped the talk right into the journal.  See how I can turn it – almost like it is bound right into the book?

You do this by taping it into the binding.  Since the tape is clear, I put a pen mark on where the tape ends.  You don’t want the tape to extend past the end of the paper – then you will tape it down.  You want the ends to NOT be taped down so the pamphlet will turn like pages.

Like so.

Alright… if you find a good talk to study in your repentance bible study journal, I want to see! Take some pics and send them my way and I can share it with everyone.

  1. I ordered another topics journal last week so I could use it to study the general conference talks. I LOVE the idea of shrinking down the entire talk and taping it in, thank you I will be using that in my journal!!

  2. Can I please just have a copy of your journal when you are done? Or else just let me steal your handwriting? 😀

  3. I just learned that you have a video on you tube. I have been nervous (don’t know why) to start writing in my journals. I want them to be as ‘pretty’ as yours. Thank you for teaching me that it’s a process and that I am not doing this for myself, but for my kids. I am going to start doing it….(DEEP BREATH) because I KNOW that it’s important to leave that legacy for them. Your website has made me WANT to study the scriptures. I’m excited that i’m at that point in my life…FINALLY! Thank you.

  4. I love your insights. Do you mind telling me what it says on the last few lines of the Repentance Is side? That list is so helpful! 🙂
