Study Journal for the Doctrine and Covenants! Filled with templates to help you study each section!

Update:  We have been working around the clock on these – and they are just awesome!  Look for the digital version by Monday evening, August 4th.  The bound book version should be available at the end of the week.    Thank you for your patience, along with it being a very involved and detailed project, we had a computer crash in the middle of the project which delayed us quite a bit. I hope you will see that the wait was worth it.

——————-

We are almost done with the Doctrine & Covenants study books and wait until you see what is inside!

In the past we have done seminary specific journals – but this year they are even better and useful for personal and family study!!!

So here is what is inside, and then if you would please, tell me which cover you like best in the comments at the end of the article.   Thank you!  🙂

Study Journal for the Doctrine and Covenants! Filled with templates to help you study each section!

The biggest change this year is that there will be 2 separate books you can choose from.

First, there will be a STUDY BOOK – this is an advanced study version for adults or youth who really want to discover the scriptures for themselves.  This book is filled with specific, formatted study pages for each section in the Doctrine & Covenants.  This book will be 8 1/2 x 11.  In the picture above it is shown in the top 2 pictures.  This is an excellent study resource for anyone.  I will get more into some sample pages below.

Second, there will be a book for STUDY NOTES – or a student or child version.  This will be a smaller book (6×9) with note pages inside rather than formatted pages.  So, maybe you want to study as a family or a class and the “study book” is too in-depth, the “study notes” gives you a page for each section in the Doctrine & Covenants, a place to record specifics about the section and then lines you can use in a large variety of ways (write notes, draw diagrams, etc).  It leaves the parent or teacher with the chance to customize the lesson and use the pages in whatever way they feel works best for that day.

Both books will also have study pages for each scripture mastery scripture (see below).

* Both of these books will be available in an actual book or in a digital format that you can print on your own.

Here are a few sample pages of the STUDY BOOK.  These are designed to help you 1- get a close look at every scripture, and then 2- have a place to record what you find.  These formatted pages really help you get a ton out of each section.

We make certain to give you a firm and effective starting point where you can then fill it in with your own personal thoughts.  If I sat down next to you with my journal and compared pages, we would have a lot the same and a lot different.  That is the point.  We give you just enough so you can take it where you need to.

Here is a closer look into pages into the STUDY BOOK.  This is section 19.  You can see at the top we gave you some background information for the section.  We do this about 50% of the time.  When the section heading gives you enough historical information to understand the revelation being received and the circumstances surrounding it , you can write in that box yourself.  Sometimes, you may need a little more church history.  So, with our additional information and the section heading you should have a solid understanding to why the revelation was being received.  That is always key in the Doctrine and Covenants – when you understand the question or the need that invited the revelation, you will see entirely new principles in that section.

Here is another page.  When you slow down and study verse-by-verse like this you will see the scriptures in an entirely new way.  In fact, it would be fun to get the digital version and print pages for each person in your family and have them come to family home evening with their pages already filled in.  You would have a GREAT discussion!

Here is one more sample page.  These are all designed so you can discover the scriptures for yourselves and have your own commentary!  If you are one that likes to study with a commentary book, you may still like to use them and have them nearby, but hopefully you will find that they will be secondary to what you are learning one-on-one in the scriptures – and instead, you will be writing your own commentary!

Both the STUDY BOOK and the STUDY NOTES will have a study page for each scripture mastery scripture.  The printed book will be in black and white, but the digital versions will have the little pictures in color like you see above.  These pictures coincide with our scripture mastery posters and flash cards.

OK… Now, please help me out and let me know which cover would you most like to see on these books.

Here is the first option.  All three options have a map of Palmyra on the front.  I like that because it is educational as well as a fun cover.   There will also most likely be a map of Kirtland on the back.  Fun, huh?

Here is the second option.  In this one that ribbon with the title on it will run all the way around the back.

And here is the third option.

Again, both the 8 1/2 x 11 STUDY BOOK and the 6×9 STUDY NOTES will have the same cover with only the subtitle “STUDY BOOK” and “STUDY NOTES” being the difference on the outside (other than the size).  We feel this is important because if the parent or teacher is using the larger book to keep their notes in, the child or student will have their own matching book and that will make an impact on them.

*We expect the digital version of this book to be available by Monday, July 28th and the actual books to be available shortly after that.  We will let you know about the release of each of those with all of the information and links you need.

  1. yay! these made a huge difference in my class last year – I am so excited to see these they look even better and I loved them before! I LOVE the maps on the front! I would love any of them. Thank you for all you do and also I love the SM cards this year! My kids have been studying them all summer!

  2. What a wonderful resource this is for all of us! Thank you!

I love 1 and 3. My boys would like 2 or 3. So I guess 3 is the winner. 🙂

Totally love your idea for family scripture study!!

  3. Wow…. I am so excited I am jumping up and down! I love 3 but would be happy with any of them because I love what is inside! Thank you!

  4. Shannon,

I just want to let everyone know how impactful this type of scripture study is. I have been using your Book of Mormon study pages and when I first got them I thought there was NO WAY I would fill up the commentary sections. Oh, how wrong I was. I can’t believe what thought an impressions come when you slow down and study like this. I have found a new love for the scriptures. Thank you!

  5. How great are all of these covers? I love three the most, but I would be thrilled with any of them. Can’t wait for this – I have always wanted to study the Doctrine and Covenants better. I think it is time to start!

  6. Oh good, I was worried you wouldn’t have these this year. The students were asking at the end of the year if they would get these cool journals again. And these look even better.

I can also see how much your study book will help me in my lesson prep. When I used your Book of Mormon study pages last year the lessons would write themselves. I am grateful to be able to get this in a book.

Thank you for all the time and effort you put in.

  7. They are all lovely but I love the color pops on #3! All of your products are so amazing! Thank you for all of your hard work to help all of us become closer to Christ by studying his words and gospel!

  8. I vote for #3. We got the Come Follow Me study guide this year and don’t like the black cover- something about it feels weird, like the color might come off on our hands or something. So I think going with white would be best.
Thanks for all your hard work!

  9. Love these! I personally like the blue, but most important, when will they be available? My daughter started seminary yesterday because we are on a modified year-round schedule, and she is so bummed that she doesn’t have her journal yet 🙁

    1. Hi Tomi!
The printed version should be available a few days after the digital version. We will send for a printed proof (we will rush the mail) and if all is well then we will have it available that same day. I am sorry we are behind this year. We moved and it took more time and effort than I had anticipated. I thought I was ahead of the game – but now I am playing catch up as fast as I can.

      Thanks Tomi!
      Shannon 🙂

  10. #3 is my favorite. Like the clean look of it, plus the little pops of color!! Excited to get my copy!! Thank you for all the work you do. You are so inspired. It gets me excited to study.

  11. I like option 3 better because I am a visual learner requires the bright colors not dark hard to see and hard to comprehend.

  12. I vote for option 3. I love the colors and the map pops a little more on the sand color background. You make me wish I was still teaching seminary! It’s been 14 years since I taught last. I LOVE your study materials, so thank you for making this one everyone can use!

  13. #1 – I absolutely love the color! You are amazing…..thank you for sharing with us less talented people!!! Cannot wait to add this to our collection.

  14. #3….and you could count two votes for that one…my 14 yr old son, who is just starting seminary likes it too!

  15. #3
    #2
    #1

That is the order of preference, but they are all wonderful and will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for all of your work and for sharing your talents with us.

  16. I like #1 the best myself… I think the white cover would get dirty looking too quickly, and I don’t even have any kids left at home, just grand-children. LOL

  17. Shannon, Will these also have a section of “basic doctrines” like the previous seminary journals have? I also like #3. Thanks

  18. I like #3. I have taught Seminary for only 1 year and oh, how I wished I had discovered your site last summer! I am so thankful you have shared your wonderful talents with us. Now I am actually looking forward to teaching this year! Yay!

  19. I absolutely love the third one. Also I was wondering when these will be ready to order, I teach Seminary in Tennessee and we will be starting a week from Monday. Also do you offer a discount to Seminary Classes? I wanted to buy these for my students and I will have 20 in my class. Thanks so much for the lesson helps, they are amazing!

    1. Hi Dawn. The digital version will be available any time. We are just finishing up some editing. The book version will be shortly after that. Yes there will be discounts for seminary classes! As soon as we get the final from the publisher we will let you know the price.

      Thanks Dawn!

      Shannon 🙂
