The Beginning of Better Days:  Divine Instruction to Women from the Prophet Joseph Smith

(with personal insights from Sheri Dew and Virginia H. Pearce)

Doesn’t this sound fantastic?

This is part of the description:

n 1842, the Prophet Joseph Smith took time to attend several meetings of the Female Relief Society of Nauvoo and give personal instruction to the women there. He did this at a time of great personal turmoil, when persecutions were raging and his responsibilities were heavy. He did it at a time when society barely acknowledged women as having any kind of status at all. On six separate occasions, he taught the women personally about their privileges, their opportunities, their obligations, and the blessings the Lord had in store for them in His kingdom.

The Beginning of Better Days includes Joseph Smith’s six timeless sermons to the women of Nauvoo, along with personal essays from Sheri Dew and Virginia H. Pearce that help us better understand the sermons and their relevance for Latter-day Saint women today. “We have attempted to share a little about our own processes of discovery regarding the sermons,” writes the authors. “This is what worked for us. What works for you may be similar — or it may be completely different. The important thing is to dig in.”

I definitely need to have this in my personal library!!

Here is a little video about it:

The second prize today is:

Life is too Short by Connie Sokol
The Life is too Short Collection (kindle edition)  by Connie Sokol

You will laugh so much when you read this!  It is full of true-to-women life experiences!  You will relate so much.  And she has this gift of taking moments that we all have (that we take too seriously) and giving you a better, lighter, healthier perspective.

I totally agree with this review about it: “I wasn’t even finished with Connie’s book before I felt renewed. Every woman needs to read this and be blessed by her wisdom and humor. Life can be a simpler and happier. She has the formula. Thank you, Connie!”

I have this and love it!!!!

And the third prize today:

Eliza:  The Life and Faith of Eliza R. Snow
/a>

I have this book, and I cannot wait to read it!

This is part of the description:

Eliza R. Snow is one of the most revered women in the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We hear stories of her faith and strength, and we sing her beloved hymns. She was fondly known as “Zion’s Poetess” and also as “Presidentess,” because of her leadership of Relief Society and her role in forming and directing organizations for young women and children. She has remained a legend for generations of Latter-day Saints, but we know less about her “variegated life,” as she described it—the personal joys and sorrows brought about by unfolding events in the young Church of which she was a part.

Eliza_R_Snow-spread1_detail
This intimate look at Eliza R. Snow, by authors Karen Lynn Davidson and Jill Mulvay Derr, reveals a more private side of this extraordinary woman. She emerges as a bright young poet in Ohio, a new convert to the restored Church, a seamstress, and a sharer in the persecutions and hardships of the early Saints. We see a member of the households of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, a dedicated temple worker, and a traveling Relief Society president with a zeal for teaching the gospel.

OK!  Are you just in awe of all of the amazing things in this giveaway!?  I mean… I want it for myself!  🙂

  1. A bright, pretty potted geranium or begonia. Both my mom and my mom-in-law could make them grow and last for a long time. Unlike me. 🙂

  2. Oh I have and love the book tossing the guilt and finding the joy. Such an awesome book and it doesn’t bring you down like some if those books. It makes you laugh and smile. Her best comment is “it is not why you have done its what you have become” so awesome

  3. I would love I give my adopted mom a day of happiness. She lost her her husband a year ago and cannot find peace. So just one day of peace and happiness would be the bet gift I could give her. Something realistic a day or weekend at the beach that was there favorite spot. For my mother I would give her a date with her new husband so they didn’t have to stress about the money.

President after 30 years in Primary.

  64. I picked up a couple of fun books from Deseret Book a few years ago to help with our FHE. One was called “Short and Simple with a Treat” and the other (my favorite of the two) was called “Experiment Upon the Word.” The first one made it easier to get in the habit of FHE since it was easier to throw something together when we had the thought. The second is full of object lessons that the older kids have really appreciated (and to be honest, I love seeing some of them work too).

  65. i absolutely love the soft reply, i received it a few years ago from a friend, she had gotten it from deseret book. it is such a great book, i’ve read it several times and still always find new things that i need to apply to my life. i love that book ^^
