I thought it might be tricky, making summer stories when we got to the parts of the Old Testament that switch from being a history or a story, to the Psalms. But boy was I wrong!

These stories are some of my absolute favorites!

Take a listen and see how our storyteller has weaved these psalms into a children's story. I think your kids will love it!

There's only one more story left after this one, so don't miss it!

In my experience, children love to have their own

In my experience, children love to have their own hard copy of the scriptures, and they love to mark, color, and add things that make it feel like their own. Even if it looks a mess to you and me, it's a great way to give children confidence in using the scriptures!

In the kit this week there is a simple but effective activity to get your children engaged in their scriptures.

All you need to do is print off the page of bookmarks and cut them out. Read the list of Psalms on the activity page and as the children listen, have them pick which illustrated bookmark matches the scripture. There are questions on each bookmark to discuss too.

They can then place that bookmark into their scriptures on the same page as that Psalm. Then every time they flick through their scriptures, they can remember the discussion you had and the peaceful feelings the Spirit brought.

Do your children like to color in their scriptures? It can be hard to stand back and let them be messy but it's all good learning, I promise!

Have you noticed how the Psalms have a way of expressing some of our deepest feelings - our sorrow for sin and longing for forgiveness, pleading for help in times of despair and even moments of questioning whether God really hears our cries?

Studying these psalms will help you feel less alone if you have ever felt these emotions and you will be able to find the Lord’s voice in the witness of those who testified of Him so long ago.

Here are some of my favorite things in next week's kit that will help your children feel this witness too:

- The art this week is absolutely beautiful. It perfectly encapsulates the beauty and gift of forgiveness. Heidi titled it, "Good, Ready and Merciful". Use it to teach your family how much the Lord delights in forgiving us.

- Get crafty with these fun scripture rocks. You'll need to go on a hunt for smooth rocks then you can paint them with words, phrases or images of your favorite psalms. You'll need craft paint and permanent markers. We also found toothpicks were handy for doing the small details.

- Because there isn't a single story running through Psalms, it can be harder to teach. Use these bookmarks to bring the psalms to life and help your children to dig into their physical scriptures. All you need is in the kits, you'll just need to print one page in color and then cut them out.
