Next week we will be studying the last moments of Jesus with His disciples. He promised them the Holy Ghost as another comforter and offered the intercessory prayer. How often do we get an insight into how the Savior prayed? It is extra special because He prays for us too.

The stories we're studying this week are so special and we knew we needed art that would do it justice.

As you study the last supper this week, here are some things to point out in the art that can help your children feel a connection to Christ.

- Notice the cup and the bread bowl are made of wood. Does it remind you that Jesus was a carpenter?

- Although it took place at night, there are multiple light sources around Jesus reminding us that He is the light of the world.

- The light comes from oil lamps - foreshadowing the Gethsemane experience.

- Oil is made through the pressing of olives - which is what the name Gethsemane means - oil press. Because of His suffering and ‘pressing’ there, we can have His light encompass us in times of darkness.

- This is embodied in the emblems of the sacrament. His body and blood that He willingly gave for us, allows the light of hope and repentance to always be a part of our lives.

Do you ever ask your children what they notice in the art? Try it, it's a great way to have a spiritual discussion.

I'm sharing something so close to my heart today - getting children into the scriptures.

Wherever possible, give your child their own set of scriptures as young as possible (much younger than eight). If your budget is tight, look for lightly used sets or try printing off some of the scripture pages for them to read.

Let your children mark them in their own special way, even if it looks a mess and you have to bite your tongue! They need to find personal connection and joy in the scriptures at every age.

And above all, help them to know that scripture language is difficult and it takes a lot of practice. Many children, teens and adults feel bad or guilty when they have a hard time understanding the scriptures. Help them know that it is supposed to be a process, but that the treasures they will find in there will bless them beyond measure.

It can be a struggle to help children truly focus on Christ during the sacrament.

In your activity kit this week, you will find this little booklet to help children remember Jesus during the sacrament. With beautiful artwork and a simple retelling of the last days of Christ's life, it is perfect to use during the sacrament.

Have each child make their own booklet and bring it to Church with them. This makes a great primary activity too, or maybe your Young Women would enjoy making one for the children in your ward.
