When Joseph Smith was hiding for his safety, his words were not filled with fear or complaint. They were filled with rejoicing.

He looked back on the voices he had heard: Moroni, Michael, Gabriel, and even the voice of God Himself. He remembered what those voices declared, that the keys of the priesthood had been restored to the earth.

That was his cause for gladness. Even in danger, he rejoiced in what Heaven had given.

The same cause is ours today. Through temple work, we help redeem those who wait beyond the veil. We offer an “offering in righteousness” as we gather names, perform ordinances, and carry light into the Lord’s house.

✨ This week, take one quiet step forward in that work.

Record a family story. Submit a name. Visit the temple.
Rejoice in so great a cause.

Joseph wrote these words while in hiding—yet the message was one of gladness. He had heard voices of angels, prophets, and heaven itself declaring:

Christ’s work is moving forward—for the living and the dead. There is a voice of gladness that reaches across the veil. It speaks mercy for the living and the dead. 💛

In this week’s Come, Follow Me (D&C 125–128), Joseph Smith shares one of the most joyful doctrines ever revealed: baptism for the dead.

What began in grief became a message of hope: God’s plan makes room for everyone.

Even in hiding, Joseph rejoiced. His words still invite us to do the same:

“Let the mountains shout for joy, and all ye valleys cry aloud … tell the wonders of your Eternal King!” (D&C 128:23)
