Have you noticed how often the Lord uses farming metaphors in the Doctrine and Covenants?

Things like…

🌾 “The field is white already to harvest” (D&C 4:4)

🧑‍🌾”..it is the eleventh hour, and the last time that I shall call laborers into my vineyard. (D&C 33:3)

This week we learn about one great laborer - a man named Jared Carter. Look at this story Lucy Mack Smith wrote about him.

“On one occasion, Lucy Mack Smith found herself in a discussion with a disdainful and contentious pastor. While he mocked the idea of the Book of Mormon and retorted that none of his congregation would ever believe in such a church, she prophesied saying:

“‘Now, Mr. Ruggles,’ said I, and I spoke with emphasis, for the Spirit of God was upon me, ‘mark my words—as true as God lives, before three years we will have more than one-third of your church; and, sir, whether you believe it or not, we will take the very deacon, too.’

“This produced a hearty laugh at the expense of the minister. …

“When I returned, I made known to Joseph the situation of things where I had been, so he despatched Brother Jared Carter to that country. And in order that he might not lack influence, he was dressed in a suit of superfine broadcloth. He went immediately into the midst of Mr. Ruggles’ church, and, in a short time, brought away seventy off his best members, among whom was the deacon, just as I told the Minister.”

What do your kids REALLY think about life after death? Here’s an easy way to find out …

1- Draw God’s Plan of Salvation - have each person draw it on their own (this will help you know what each child knows).

2- Then draw what some other beliefs teach about what happens after this life. What happens after this life is one of life’s most significant questions, and numerous philosophies are offered in the world.

3- Then go into Doctrine and Covenant 76 and find what answers the Lord has given.

There is a lot to absorb in this section. One idea is to go into each of the below sections of scripture and look for one or two really important truths that you want to remember.

• Verses 1–18: The introduction
• Verses 19–24: A vision of Jesus Christ
• Verses 25–29: A vision of Satan
• Verses 30–49: A vision of the sons of perdition
• Verses 50–70 and 92–96: A vision of celestial glory
• Verses 71–80, 91, 97: A vision of the terrestrial glory
• Verses 81–90, 98–112: A vision of the telestial glory
