This week we study Genesis 42–50 and the powerful conclusion of Joseph’s story: his reunion with and forgiveness of the brothers who once sold him into Egypt.

We see Joseph’s willingness to forgive his brothers, a powerful example of Christlike forgiveness and the healing that comes through the Savior.

Elder Neil L. Andersen taught:

“The powerful compassion of the Savior in forgiving sin and in healing the wounds caused by the sins of others is a most miraculous manifestation of the love of God.”

Joseph’s response to his brothers reflects this same compassion.

In Genesis 45:4–5 we read:

“And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you… I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt.

Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves… for God did send me before you to preserve life.”

Instead of holding onto pain, Joseph chooses mercy, trusting that God had been working through even the hardest parts of his story.

This week as you study, you might think:

Sometimes the hardest part of teaching the gospel to teens is simply starting the conversation.

Need a memorable way to teach about Joseph and his 11 brothers this week? This simple coat of many colors activity lets kids keep their hands busy while you talk about Joseph’s story. ✂️🧶

Just cut the coat templates from a cereal box, let kids pick their yarn, hook the yarn into a slit and then wrap. Choose color you love, make a fun pattern or if you're really ambitious you can tie bows or add beads to make it extra special.

Simple to prep.

Easy to use during class.

Joseph’s story in Genesis 37–41 is full of bet

Joseph’s story in Genesis 37–41 is full of betrayal, hardship, and long waiting. But it’s also a story many mothers recognize. Joseph is thrown into a pit by his own brothers. Later he’s sold into slavery. At first it looks like everything has gone wrong.

But the scriptures slowly show something else. God is working through the very moments that seemed the hardest.

Sometimes we call those “pit moments.”

And they can become powerful conversations with your kids.

You might ask:

✨ What’s a pit moment you may be experiencing in your life?

✨ What helped you keep going?

✨ Have you ever seen God turn something painful into something meaningful?

As a mother, you can also share your own stories. The times something felt unfair or impossible, but later you could see how God was working in ways you didn’t understand yet.

Most moms don't have time for long scripture lessons. Life is busy. Kids are loud. The day moves fast. But when you know the story, suddenly those everyday moments become teaching moments. Dinner table conversations. Car rides. Bedtime talks.
