Book of Mormon Scripture Mastery
Do you remember memorizing scripture mastery scriptures when you were in seminary? Well… in case you don’t… every year the kids are supposed to memorize 25 scripture mastery scriptures from whatever book they are studying. So over their 4 years of seminary, they memorize 100 scriptures. Actually – they memorize more than that because a lot of the scriptures are in sets of 2 or 3 (or more).
One year I had a student that was a whiz at the scripture mastery scriptures – she knew them so well – - and then I found out her secret. Her family would say a scripture reference at dinner, and whoever COULDN’T say the entire scripture from memory had to do the dishes! THAT is motivation!
Plus – there are so many fun games that you can do with these scriptures with your family.
But first – I will give you a print out of the Book of Mormon Scripture Mastery scriptures. Print them out. Hang them around your home. Have everyone mark them in a special way in their scriptures. Memorize them together as a family. Talk about why they feel they were chosen out of all the other scriptures to be a “scripture mastery”. Pick one a day for morning scripture study. Have challenges, goals, contests and rewards for those who memorize them. Talk about the doctrines and principles in them.
Love them. Master them.
Some ideas for activities to accompany these will soon follow. And the better your family knows the scriptures, the more fun the game will be.
Here is the print out:
oh – and the funny letters on the 2nd sheet are the 1st letters of each word (they are helps for memorization): Book of Mormon Scripture Mastery List
