One Bowl Double Chocolate Cookies- The Red Headed Hostess

My husband comes in from the gym today and asks, “will you make me some cookies?”
This isn’t his typical post-gym behavior – so I figured he must really need some cookies.
Sometimes you just need a cookie.
But I didn’t want to make a  mess  of several bowls, measuring cups, and such – so I pulled out this “go-to” recipe.  I love it because they are delish – and you can have them ready to go before your oven is fully preheated.
Notice that as I was taking some pics
He really needed a cookie
These cookies are of the “soft and gooey” variety
Which is his favorite kind
I take this part of our marriage very seriously.
Here is the recipe:
1 box devils food cake mix
1 stick butter melted
1 egg
2 T water
*mix together
*Add in 1/2 bag of chocolate chips and 3/4 cup of english toffee bits (optional)
* Roll into balls and flatten a bit and put onto a greased cookie sheet
*Bake at 350 for 9 minutes (take out just as they start to crack)

  1. We made these tonight. The kids loved them. We didn’t have any toffee bits, so we just left them out. I got THIRTY-FIVE small cookies out of the recipe!! To the last batch I added a pinch of cinnamon, and that was a yummy variation. This recipe is definitely a keeper!!

  2. I found your blog and these cookies on Pinterest. Made these cookies soon after. Just wanted to say thanks for providing me with my new “go-to-recipe” for cookies. Everyone just loves these yummy treats! Thanks again for sharing. I’m now your newest follower!

  3. Wow. Found this on Pinterest because I wanted a quick and easy cookie for the kids to take to a 4th of July party tomorrow…pretty sure they won’t make it past the 3rd of July…going to have to go door to door tomorrow to find another box of devil’s food cake mix so I can make some more since I’m assuming the grocery stores will be closed……yum! Thanks for sharing!

  4. Every Monday the football moms all rotate who brings cookies for the players. Every time it was my turn these were a HUGE hit! Even the coaches would hit up the containers, which wasn’t normal! I did lots of variations, chocolate chips, mint chips, peanut butter chips, added oats and even did crushed potato chips once. I was told by more than one player that they couldn’t wait until next season, just for my cookies!
